The Not So Typical Week – And a Giveaway!!

It’s definitely not business as usual around here – it’s my daughter’s spring break from preschool, so she’s spending a lot of time with grandparents this week.  In fact, this is the only day all week we’ll be hanging out together – I just got her back from my mother, and she’s on to the hub’s mom tomorrow.  It’s also our anniversary weekend – yesterday marked 8 years of blissfully uneventful marriage. 🙂 So we’ll be celebrating this weekend, sans child (unless you count the one I’m working on right now!).

Also, in celebration of reaching an average of 50 visits per day last month for the first time ever, I’m doing my very first giveaway!  I’ll be giving away a copy of the Edible Front Yard by Ivette Soler.

From the publisher:

People everywhere are turning patches of soil into bountiful vegetable gardens, and each spring a new crop of beginners pick up trowels and plant seeds for the first time. They’re planting tomatoes in raised beds, runner beans in small plots, and strawberries in containers. But there is one place that has, until now, been woefully neglected — the front yard.

It’s a great book for anyone that is out of growing room in the backyard, or if you just want to make your front yard or porch both beautiful AND productive.  It’s also full of lovely pictures of gardens if you’re into that kind of thing. 😉

To enter, simply add a comment below about why you’d like to plant edibles in your front yard, or what you would like to grow.  To enter a SECOND time, please share this giveaway on Facebook or Twitter and then add another comment.  Two comments per person please.  Comments will be open until Friday, April 6 at 8:00pm EST, at which time a comment will be chosen by random number generator and the winner will be notified by email.

Full disclosure:  If you’d like to just purchase the book, the link and image go to Amazon, where I get a very small commission for anything you buy after following the link.

Comments are closed!  The winner will be announced in Monday’s post.  Thanks for coming by!

  1. Hi, just stopping by to let you know how much I enjoy your blog! Today, I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. Check out my post for the details! Keep up the good work!

  2. We have planted strawberries in the front yard, for ground cover and because the backyard is just about full. We also want to plant a wide variety of vegetables out front, such as eggplants, lettuce, kale, spinach, and all kinds of herbs. We’ll mix in lots of flowers as well so it looks nice and to attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

  3. We have already planted lots of veggies in our front yard (the fence around our yard helps), but there is always room for fresh ideas! This book looks great, so thanks for the opportunity to win it 🙂

We don’t have a front yard, per se, but our apartment balcony is bursting with green beans, tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro, basil, chives, spring onions, and an orange tree! this is our first year really growing veggies, and we’re looking for wisdom and ideas!!
