Every Friday, Kristen over at The Frugal Girl posts a picture of her food waste. She invites other bloggers to join in her effort to save money and reduce the amount of food that gets thrown away in our country every day.
Sorry folks for the sporadic posting over the last week or so – chalk it up to one part lack of inspiration and one part just plain old business. But interesting things are happening around here, so expect some good stuff soon!
Now, on to what is definitely not good stuff:
This week’s waste: a tomato and one peach. The tomato was pulled out of the freezer to use in sauce along with canned tomatoes and then forgotten. The peach was the last one from last week’s post – I meant to use it in a smoothie, but then I ran out of kale, and uh, well, no excuses, right?
How did you do this week?
I have heard a few times now about using kale in smoothies. Do you put it in raw? Doesn’t it make it bitter. Intruiguing …
Yes, I put it in raw. You just have to make sure you blend it very smooth. And it will only make the smoothie bitter if the kale is bitter. If you buy kale in season (aka NOT in the summer) it’s almost always sweet.
That’s still totally amazing.
I guess if you put enough peaches in , you won’t taste the kale? Looks like a pretty good week, waste wise.
It’s the second comment against kale! Kale in season is quite sweet and doesn’t put any bad flavors in the smoothie. You guys must be getting some seriously bitter summer kale. 😉
